He went on to say that wind farms are an excuse by some entrepreneurs to “make money at the expense of taxpayers and landholders” and "Wind farms will diminish greenhouse gas emissions by so small an amount I doubt you could calculate it "

     So if the Senator’s point of view is correct why is it that so many people are so keen to erect these monstrosities in our neighborhood? Well the simple answer is money- lots and lots of money. The turbine companies are offering embattled landholders amounts in rental the likes of which they have never seen- approximately $8000 a year per tower.  And if you think their stipend is large it pales into complete insignificance when the amount made by the developers and proprietors of this fraud is calculated.

     The major part of this huge pile of money is not made from the sale of electricity as you might expect but from the sale of Green certificates. Every Megawatt of power created by a wind turbine returns about $200. But as well, because it was created by “renewable” technology it generates one Green certificate.

     Because of the Federal Government’s plan to increase the use of renewable energy, each supplier of electricity (in our area Origin or Red energy) must obtain 2% of its supply from a renewable source such as hydro or,  you guessed it, wind power. If they do not, the Government fines them. To prevent themselves being fined they can either make electricity from a renewable source or buy Green certificates to top up their renewable purchases to the capacity they are short.

   Each Green certificate can be worth around $100. If a turbine runs at about 25% capacity generating 2 Megawatts per day, 365 days a year , that’s $260,000 a year in electricity and Green certificate sales. Multiply that by the 150 turbines slated for our neighborhood and the yearly income from the wind farm is $37,000,000. Multiply that by the life of the farm- say 25 years and the figure is nearly 1 billion dollars!

     The greater percentage of that is made not from generating clean, green energy but by enabling dirty, green house gas producers to continue to pollute our atmosphere. And all with the help of the “Green” Brumby Government.

It’s a complete fraud.
